In the summer of 2008 my brother took an internship with the Shiner Brewery in Shiner, TX, and I took a trip with my dad to visit him. The physical brewery itself is called the "Spoetzl Brewery," with the history documented in one of the photos below. All Shiner beer is made in that plant. During the internship, Shiner provided housing for Paul and the other intern: at the beautiful and historic Kral Family homestead, about three miles outside of town. Many of these pictures are from the homestead, and a number of them look back towards town. Shiner is interesting for having been founded by German and Czech immigrants, and that shows in their traditions of beer and meat...and also in the magnificent Catholic church they have built, which stands out on the horizon from far away, making Shiner look a bit like a European village in the distance (it's not, but it has its own charm). Paul now has a permanent position with the Shiner brewery, but no longer lives on the Kral homestead.
