Our route took us from the Clingman's Dome Parking Area, down the Forney Ridge Trail to the Forney Creek Trail, from there through the valley alongside Forney Creek to its intersection with Jonas Creek, camping on the way at Campsite #69. Then up the Jonas Creek Trail to Welch Ridge, and along Welch Ridge to the AT at Siler's Bald, where we stayed the second night. Finally, back along the AT to Clingman's Dome, where we finished. An excellent 19 mile loop, with about 4000 ft. descent to the Forney/Jonas intersection, then 4000 ft. back up to the top.
