October 10, 2009: Another place I visited last winter was New Mexico. The new gallery posted below includes a number of pictures of the desert and mountains, as well as of the Chimayo mission and the city of Santa Fe.

September 16, 2009: Last winter I visited Seattle, and the pictures from that trip are now up and featured below. Also, if you haven't seen the China and Taiwan photos, there are three galleries featured below and seven more under "China and Taiwan."

Fall Colors in the Great Smokies and Plott Balsams, Oct 2008 : These were taken while driving up the Blue Ridge Parkway from Balsam Gap to Waterrock Knob, and at the top of Waterrock Knob, late on a fall afternoon. The mountains are the Great Balsams, the Plott Balsams and the Great Smokies.

Seattle, Jan 2009 : I visited my good friends Ian and Katy in Seattle in January of 2009, and we made an excursion to the famous Pike Place Market, as well as to the University of Washington and the Kerry Park vantage point.

New Mexico, Feb 2009 : While in Santa Fe for a conference last February, I took a drive through the desert on the High Road to Taos, stopping at the famous Chimayo mission and shrine, as well as catching some good views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. We went skiing at the Santa Fe Ski Area, and the view to the southwest was extraordinary, as I hope the pictures might imply (I doubt they do the view justice). Finally, I took a morning to walk around Santa Fe itself and capture some impressions.

A Traditional Wedding in the Zhujiajiao Water Town: Shih-Hung and Danielle, Sep 2008 : We stopped in Shanghai so that Morris could be best man in the wedding of his good friend Shih-Hung. The bride and groom were wonderfully kind in letting me come along to see a traditional Chinese wedding - despite having never met me before! I very much enjoyed getting to know them and getting to be a part of this occasion. The wedding was in the Zhujiajiao "water town," an ancient town of canals, somewhat like a small Venice. These photos show both the town and the events.
